Shull Lab, University of New Mexico (PI: Lomeli Shull) — Undergraduate Researcher

Albuquerque, NM | August 2024 – Present

  • Research zebrafish fin bud development and how mutations in prdm16, prdm3, and other gene regulatory factors affect growth and developmental patterning.

  • Perform experimental workflows including HCR, PCR/qPCR, microscopy, microdissections, and image/data quantification.

  • Analyze and organize datasets using Excel, GraphPad Prism, RStudio, and ImageJ/Fiji; create figures and summary graphs for lab and presentation use.

  • Maintain accurate lab documentation and follow safety procedures and protocols in a research environment.

Castillo Lab, University of New Mexico (PI: Eliseo Castillo) - Summer Researcher

Albuquerque, NM | Summer 2026

  • Research on how microplastic exposure may influence inflammation and immune-cell activity, with a focus on macrophages as potential carriers of plastic particles to the brain.

  • Performed several experiments including tissue preparation, staining, microscopy, immune cell isolation, slide imaging, qPCR, and image/data analysis.
